I’ve been a keen follower of the work of director Kieran Evans ever since the DV experimental documentary Finisterre he co-directed with Paul Kelly for Saint Etienne in 2003. I caught up with Kieran at the London Film Festival to discuss his move into features with his adaptation of Niall Griffiths’ Liverpool set novel Kelly + Victor. We discussed capturing a unique cinematic view of Liverpool and how themes of nature’s cruelty informed the tone and structure of the film.

Kelly + Victor (2012)

Kelly and Victor meet at a nightclub and start a sexual relationship, the excitement of which removes them from the dull ordinariness of their lives.

What they go through isn’t a romance, it’s like two atoms colliding. It’s about two people looking for answers.
