Just when you finally thought you’d seen every type of zombie short possible, along comes Sunday / Paper’s Rest. Confidently helmed by writer, director, and visual effects artist Cole Schreiber and lushly shot by cinematography by James Laxton, Rest is a weirdly touching tale of undying (or should that be undead?) love.
The story of a young American solider who dies in WW1 and ninety years later unearths himself from a grave in the European countryside. Shot over the course of a week in Mendocino County, Morongo Valley and New York City, the film is a dark, but beautiful meditation on a wayward soul’s pursuit of peace.
