January 2012 is obviously the month of weirdness – featuring a maverick panda wandering an apocalyptic landscape, Bird Benny strutting a penis-shaped plumage and a stupid hoe. Then, just when you thought every form of Star Wars parody had been covered, another two come along in the space of a couple weeks; first the epic Star Wars Uncut: Director’s Cut, which was swiftly followed by Keith Schofield’s genius ad spot for Volkswagen. We also had the loveless passion of Shame and the passionless love of Like Crazy. Celia Rowlson-Hall danced her way through iconic female imagery, while a free spirit found herself brought down to earth and Tom Willems taught us how to direct hands.
MarBelle has a strange compulsion to watch as many films as he can get his hands on and find jobs that give him a legitimate excuse to drill filmmakers about their work. Directors Notes is the latest incarnation of this disorder and so much cheaper than film school. Twitter: @MarBelle
