Even if you have little interest in the ubiquitous ‘list’ style of blog post, there’s one annual collection that anyone with a propensity towards indie film looks forward to annually and that’s Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film.
Aside from our usual level of curiosity as to which directors we should run to ground for future DN interviews, this 14th edition of the list is a cause for us to celebrate as it includes our nearest and dearest film friends Andrew S Allen & Jason Sondhi of the ever so excellent (and oft mentioned) Short of the Week. Wow and massive congratulations guys! Filmmaker Magazine picked Andrew and Jason up for their ceaseless work promoting the short form over at SotW and of course the visually stunning, cryptographic short The Thomas Beale Cipher, which Andrew joined us to chat about.
Also amongst the list are a few folks we’re very happy to see make the cut such as; Brent Hoff, who explained to us what the hell a Wholphin is, the 3-headed directing machine Everynone who we’ve been stalking from afar through their Radiolab collaborative shorts Words, Moments, Re:WORDS & Symmetry, and Sophia Takal who discussed jealousy with us after our creepy time in the woods with her feature Green.
Those may be our favourites but to discover whose films you’re going to be desperate to see in the near future, take a read through the full 25 after the jump.
MarBelle has a strange compulsion to watch as many films as he can get his hands on and find jobs that give him a legitimate excuse to drill filmmakers about their work. Directors Notes is the latest incarnation of this disorder and so much cheaper than film school. Twitter: @MarBelle
