DN Picks: Jun11

The extra daylight hours of June got us all super productive here at DN – we put out more posts than we have in any other month since the site began! Strange as most of us are night owls? Anyway, here are some of our faves…

Year Zero – OFFF Barcelona 2011 Main Titles – Are these not the greatest festival titles you’ve ever seen? Of course they are!

Meek’s Cutoff – Kelly Reichardt proves once again why she is one of the most innovative, challenging filmmakers on the scene.

EIFF2011: The Passion of Béla Tarr – Alex get’s an insight into what inspires cinematic master Béla Tarr during his Edinburgh Film Festival trip.

Loom – I hate spiders with an (ir)rational passion bordering on psychosis, but even I fell in love with the close up brutality of Polynoid’s film.

DN EIFF2011: Nokia Shorts – MarBelle jets off to Edinburgh to chat to the nominees for the Nokia Shorts Competition.

Author: MarBelle

MarBelle has a strange compulsion to watch as many films as he can get his hands on and find jobs that give him a legitimate excuse to drill filmmakers about their work. Directors Notes is the latest incarnation of this disorder and so much cheaper than film school. Twitter: @MarBelle
