On first look Niles Heckman’s self generated public service announcement film Small World Energy looks like a stunning piece of aerial tilt-shift photography, but what makes this even more impressive is the fact that:
“The actual execution was not done using aerial cinematography but instead employs a combination of hand painting, photo collage, morphing, and texture projections along with the very old but extremely useful KEN BURNS EFFECT to essentially create as series of moving matte paintings.”
Wow! No doubt Niles’ years of visual effects experience came in handy. If he can make a clean energy PSA film look this good I can’t wait to see what he cooks up in his forthcoming sci-fi short Aurora-Lab.

MarBelle has a strange compulsion to watch as many films as he can get his hands on and find jobs that give him a legitimate excuse to drill filmmakers about their work. Directors Notes is the latest incarnation of this disorder and so much cheaper than film school. Twitter: @MarBelle
