Max Hattler: New Films + New Job

Everyone seems to get an extra spring in their step over a bank holiday, especially when it results in a mammoth four day weekend like this one. Well, I’m thinking that our old friend Max Hattler will be having an even better time of it following the news that Partizan have picked him up for worldwide representation. A smart move on their part no doubt as his work gets better with each piece, which brings me to his latest, hypnotic films 1923 aka Heaven and 1925 aka Hell.

Both animation loops were inspired by French outsider artist Augustin Lesage’s paintings A Symbolic Composition of the Spiritual World from the respective years and created in five days with students at The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark. Enjoy!
