As a festival that features such strong music and film strands, SXSW was the perfect place for Bruce McDonald to premiere his Broken Social Scene concert meets fictional lovers tale, This Movie is Broken. Bruce joined me over a coffee to discuss the breakneck speed of the project, which is as much an ode to his hometown of Toronto as it is to the band.

In a way, it was a movie that was shot first and then went into pre-production after the fact. It’s sort of a nutty way to do it, but in this case it was the only way. We just had to capture the show.
