Like yourself Kurtis, I was left somewhat 'dumbstruck' by Hunger, I literally walked out of the cinema and didn't know what to say! I think after being asked 'what I thought' by my girlfriend, I'm pretty sure all I could do was sigh and looked at her with bewilderment. It was like the film had not only taken away the power of speech, but also the power of cognitive thought. I have nothing but admiration for Steve McQueen for making a film like Hunger......that man must have some balls! It is a shining example of how the medium of Film can affect the viewer. I've never seen anything in cinema to prepare me for such a horrifying visual account of pain. And for that reason I'm struggling with my reaction to it. As a film and a work of art its brilliant. Generally I gravitate toward tragic emotionally powerful stories which often leave me exhilarated and connected to some deep seeded human emotions. However, Hunger didn't leave me feeling exhilaration or joy in any way. To be honest I'm a wreck right now, and I'm not sure what else to say except, wow what an experience.
